HOLLAND, Mich. – Despite a heavy workload as it makes the final push toward the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship, Albion College had enough in the tank to defeat Hope College, 160-136, in a men's swimming & diving dual meet.
Ethan Henninges turned in a dominant performance, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle by 14 ½ seconds. Henninges finished his race in 10:35.15.
Albion racked up 16 points in the 100 backstroke as Ian Moran (54.38) led Robbie Hagner (57.08) and Jake Huttenlocher (57.39) to the wall.
Connor Robertson led Albion to 14 points with a 1-3-4 finish in the 100 breaststroke. Robertson (1:04.07) finished ahead of Hunter Jackman (1:05.13) and Andrew Jonna (1:07.39).
Albion also went 1-3-4 in the 200 breaststroke. Huttenlocher (2:10.01) led the way with Jonna in third (2:20.36) and Jackman in fourth (2:22.02).
Albion also earned 1-2 finishes in the 50 freestyle (Len Ciemniecki and Nate Kozycki) and 200 backstroke (Erik Halboth and Noah Mitchell with Anthony Hopkins adding two points with a fourth place finish),
Tommy Trueax won the 500 freestyle in 5:04.07 and Albion put the exclamation point on the meet by outscoring Hope, 13-4, in the 200 freestyle relay. Evan Wonner, Robertson, Huttenlocher and Ciemniecki were first (1:27.28).
While he did not finish first in an event, Matt Anderson continued to improve in the butterfly events, setting lifetime best times in the 100 (56.78) and 200 (2:08.87).
Albion and Hope will meet again Friday, Feb. 1, in a 6:30 p.m. meet at Eastern Michigan University.
