GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Samantha Swingewood won the 400-yard individual medley and 200 butterfly Saturday, powering Albion College to a second place finish in a quadrangular swimming and diving meet hosted by Calvin University.
Calvin was the first place team with a 1,139 total in the two-day meet. Albion rolled up 868 points to finish just ahead of Carthage College at 840.
A sophomore from Carmel, Ind., Swingewood finished first in three events in the meet. She was the winner of the 200 IM on Friday. She set times of 4:45.58 in the 400 IM and 2:12.27 in the 200 butterfly on Saturday.
Albion collected a bunch of points in the 1,650 freestyle when Megan Harvey finished third, Ashley Ketchum came in fourth and Emma Henninges touched the wall in fifth.
Albion finished the meet with a third-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Allison Dasky, Sarah Griffiths, Swingewood and Hannah Erickson set a time of 3:46.71.
Albion has two home dual meets coming up. The Britons will dive in against Hope College (Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.) and Kalamazoo College (Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.).

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
