Men and women in third place midway through MIAA Swimming & Diving Championship

The Albion men and women are in the middle of the pack Thursday after two days of the MIAA Swimming & Diving Championship at the Venema Aquatic Center in Grand Rapids.

Both teams are in third place out of six schools and both are looking up at Calvin in first place and Hope in second. And as far as coach Nick Stone is concerned, it's a good place to be.

"Today was our are weakest day for both of our teams," he said. "The next two days we do really well, especially in the stroke events. Today we swam really, really well across the board and I'm excited for the next two days."

The highlight was senior Rileigh Eding setting a school record by winning the women's 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.87 seconds.

Other highlights were a 2-3-4 finish in the men's 200-yard individual medley with Connor Robertson, Jake Huttenlocher and Declan Tharp, a second place finish for the women's 200 free relay team of Tia Ulieme, Hannah Erickson, Desky Desky and Eding, a second place showing in 1-meter diving by Justin Huttenlocher and a second place for the men's 400 medley relay team of Ian Moran, Jake Huttenlocher, Evan Wonner and Len Ciemniecki.

Competition continues through Saturday
