ALBION -- Back in their home pool, the Albion College men's and women's swimming and diving teams excelled against Alma College, with both teams coming away victorious. The men defeated the Scots, 137-67, while the women earned a 151-67 win.
The 200 yard medley relay team of
Declan Tharp,
Brennen Curry,
Cole Nelson and
Ethan Boersma kicked off the night with a win, finishing in 1:41.71. Just behind them was the second Albion squad, composed of
Anthony Hopkins,
Andrew Jonna,
Nate Cobb and
Richard Pifer.
Sarah Griffiths,
Mattie Smith,
Sage Gettings and
Hannah Fathman finished at 1:49.50 to win the women's 200 yard medley relay.
Noah Mitchell won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:38.05. On the women's side,
Emma Henninges took the top spot (11:36.63).
Senior
Connor Robertsonplaced second in the 200 yard free, touching the wall at 1:55.80. The women went 1-2, as
Hannah Fathman -- the reigning MIAA Swimmer of the Week and
Samantha Swingewood led the Britons.
With a time of 22.17,
Declan Tharp placed first in the 50 yard free.
AJ Zako finished narrowly behind him at 22.68.
Bryn Cavanaugh and
Courtney Swingewood also added a 1-2 finish for Albion for the women.
Cobb's time of 4:24.53 was good for a first place finish in the 400 IM. Smith had complete control in the women's race, winning with a time of 4:50.16.
Justin Huttenlocher scored 251.25 in the 1-meter dive, as
Sarah Stone collected 182.70 points for the Albion women. Huttenlocher later went on to score a 237.23 in the 3-meter dive.
Lindsey Walicki won the 3-meter dive, scoring a 179.92.
Zako went on to win the 100 yard butterfly, finishing at 53.83.
Samantha Swingewood collected a win in the 100 fly as well, coming in at 1:01.11.
In the 100 yard free, Nelson won with a time of 50.00. Senior
Ashley Ketchum won the women's race with a time of 57.68.
A time of 56.88 was enough for Tharp to take home first in the 100 yard backstroke. Griffiths's time of 1:03.63 gave her the win on the women's side.
Andrew Jonna won the 500 yard free with a time of 5:26.93.
Elizabeth Cavataio took first as well, clocking in at 6:02.53.
Mitchell's time of 1:05.30 won him the 100 yard breaststroke.
Courtney Swingewood won the women's race, swimming a 1:14.48.
Capping off the night, both teams won the 400 yard free relay.
Brendan Ritchie,
Erik Halboth, Boersma and
Kelvin Crone-Willis swam a 3:26.56 as Fathman,
Samantha Swingewood,
Alexis Glaser and Smith finished in 3:47.61.
Both teams will be in action tomorrow at Kalamazoo College. The meet will begin at 11 a.m.
