GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- After day one of the MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships, the Albion College men's swimming and diving team currently sits in third place. The day was highlighted by a win in the 200 yard breaststroke by senior Jake Huttenlocher, who set a new school record with a time of 2:00.14.
In the 100 yard fly, Declan Tharp took third with a time of 48.50. Cole Nelson (50.05) took fifth and Evan Wonner (50.82) finished seventh.
In the 500 yard free, Drew Fogel's time of 4:42.74 was good for a fourth place finish.
Connor Robertson placed third in the 400 yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.88. Noah Mitchell and Nelson placed fifth and sixth in the event, respectively.
Senior Kurt Jolly took eighth in the 100 yard free, touching the wall at 49.82.
Huttenlocher (1:53.53), Tharp (1:53.69) and Nate Cobb (1:54.01) all finished 3-4-5 in the 200 yard IM.
Justin Huttenlocher was fourth in the 1m dive, scoring a 435.90. Jon Cronick placed eighth, scoring 338.05.
In addition to Huttenlocher's win, Andrew Jonna was eighth in the 200 yard breaststroke.
The 400 yard medley relay team of Nelson, Huttenlocher, Tharp and Wonner took third with a time of 3:23.67.
Calvin leads the meet with 516 points. Hope sits in second with 449 and Albion is third with 397.
The Britons will close out the MIAA Championships on Saturday at Calvin. Prelims start at 11 a.m. followed by finals at 5:30 p.m.
