GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- After day one of the MIAA Championships, the Albion College women's swimming and diving team sits in third place with 351 points. On the day, Sage Gettings collected a pair of MIAA titles while shattering a 15-year old conference record.
Gettings won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56.15 to set a new MIAA record. She also was crowned a MIAA Champion in the 100 yard free, touching the wall at 52.06.
Junior Samantha Swingewood set a new school record in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:08.47, coming in third place. In that same event, Emily Merucci finished fifth and Courtney Swingewood took sixth.
With a time of 2:08.40, Sarah Griffiths finished third in the 200 yard backstroke. Merucci took seventh in the event with a time of 2:12.77.
The 400 yard medley relay team of Griffiths, Katy Henning, Gettings and Hannah Erickson placed third with a time of 3:56.00.
Courtney Swingewood and Henning placed seventh and eighth in the 200 yard breaststroke.
In the 1m dive, Lindsey Walicki's score of 308.65 was good for seventh. Sarah Stone took eighth with a score of 295.55.
The women will wrap up competition on Saturday. Prelims begin at 11 a.m. and finals will commence at 5:30 p.m.
