Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Euceda lifts men's soccer past Hope on Senior Day

The freshman scored his ninth goal of the season for the 1-0 victory.

ALBION – 2009.

Three days after knocking off No. 6 Calvin, the Albion College men's soccer team defeated Hope College, 1-0 – the first time the team has defeated both opponents in the same season since 2009.

On Senior Day, freshman Jonathan Euceda stole the show with a goal in the 35th minute. At midfield, Alex Carre-Font played a high bouncer where Euceda beat the entire Hope back line for a breakaway. He slotted a ball into the lower left corner to push Albion ahead, 1-0. Albion would hold the momentum for the remainder of the half, taking that margin into the break.

In the second half, Hope had some decent chances, but the Briton defense held tough, once again anchored by sophomore keeper Anton Favre. Favre recorded his second consecutive clean sheet, making six saves in the win.

The best chance for the equalizer came in the 73rd minute. The Flying Dutch capitalized possession on a bouncer in the box and nailed a one-timer at Favre. Favre dropped to his knee to make the save and knock the ball out of bounds, preserving the Briton lead.

Hope had a commanding edge in shots (18-4) and had six corner opportunities compared to Albion's none. But as the final seconds ticked down, the Briton bench could not wait to greet the 11 on the field for their second celebration in as many days.

Prior to the match, Albion recognized its senior class of Carter Peek, Micah Cross, Stefan Isaevski and Daniel Acosta

The win puts Albion in great shape for a playoff push, improving to 8-6-3 overall, 3-2-1 in the MIAA. The Britons will wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at Kalamazoo. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
