Gettings sets 100 fly record, swim and dive in action at Wabash

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – There is a new school record in the 100 fly. 

Over the course of three days, the Albion College swim and dive teams competed at the Gail Moll Pebworth Invitational, hosted by Wabash College. On Saturday, junior Sage Gettings broke the school record in the 100 butterfly, finishing with a time of 56.07.

The men were fifth out of ten teams, scoring 1,337 points. The women placed sixth out of ten with 900.5 points. 

On Friday night, the women started the meet with a fourth place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of Hannah Fathman, Bryn Cavanaugh, Lauren Bailey and Sage Gettings clocked in at 1:40.09. The men's team of Billy Barr, Declan Tharp, Nate Cobb and Brendan Ritchie took second with a time of 1:24.42.

In the 50 free, the Brits saw three swimmers place. For the men, Barr was third with a time of 20.86. On the women's side, Fathman and Gettings were third and fifth in the event. 

On Saturday, the men's 800 free relay team placed seventh. Barr, Richard Pifer, Nick Johns and Cobb finished in 7:15.98.

Ritchie, Tharp, Cobb and Barr were third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.77. For the women, the team of Alexis Glaser, Emily Evers, Gettings and Fathman took fifth. 

The 400 medley relay team of Glaser, Evers, Gettings and Fathman placed sixth, clocking in at 4:06.85.

It was Fathman, Gettings and Barr once again, taking top three spots for the Britons in the 100 free. Fathman and Gettings went 2-3 (51.82, 53.03) and Barr was second with a swim of 46.40.

Tharp had two more good races in individual events – the 100 fly and the 100 breaststroke. He placed fourth and eighth in those events. Cobb was sixth in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:12.64.

Sophomore Kelvin Crone-Willis was seventh in the 400 IM (4:20.98).

In diving, Sarah Weissman was third in the 1-meter, scoring a 327.40. For the men, freshman Jeremy Romero was eighth (307.45).

Rounding out the meet, the men's 400 free relay team of Barr, Cobb, Ritchie and Tharp finished third with a time of 3:08.69. The women wrapped up with an eighth place race (Gettings, Cavanaugh, Evers, Fathman). 

This was the last competition for the Brits for the 2022 calendar year. Albion will be back in action on Jan. 21 at a tri-meet against Calvin and Alma, hosted by Calvin.
