WWREST: Two take second at Albion Invitational

ALBION – At the Albion College Invitational, the No. 19 ranked Briton women's wrestling team had a good showing at its host meet. A pair of runner-up finishes highlighted the day for Albion.

Sophomore Jayla Oberst finished second at 123. She gritted out a 4-0 win in her first match before earning a 7-3 victory in the second match. She eventually fell in the finals, but claimed a runner-up finish for the Britons.

Freshman Hannah Palise took second at 136. The No. 6 ranked wrestler in that weight class went 2-1 in the invitational. She pinned her first opponent in just 15 seconds before claiming another fall in 2:32. She narrowly fell in the championship bout, 4-3.

At 109, freshman Gabby Motz placed third, going 3-1 on the day. After dropping her first match, Motz responded with a pair of 10-0 tech fall wins. In the third place bout, Motz pinned her opponent in 1:04.

Also competing at 109 was Lynsey Light. The freshman went 2-2 on the day, including a 14-4 tech fall in her first match. She capped off the day with a fifth place finish, picking up a pin in 1:45.

Danielle Ruiz continued her successful freshman campaign with a 3-2 afternoon, good for a fifth place finish. All three of her victories came via tech falls (10-0, 13-2, 10-0). Sam Parcell was 1-2 in the same weight class.

Hannah Arledge went 3-2 at 136. Two of the freshman's three wins came via pins (1:16, 1:12) while adding a tech fall to begin the day (18-7).

The women's team will be idle until Dec. 17 at the West Coast Tournament of Champions.
