Swim and dive back in action at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – On Saturday, the Albion College swim and dive teams wrapped up a two-day quad meet. The women took third scoring 569 points, while the men were fourth with 586.5 points. The teams competed against Carthage, Ohio Northern and Calvin.

Saturday started with the 200 medley relay, where the women's team of Alexis Glaser, Mattie Smith, Sage Gettings and Hannah Fathman took second. The men's team of Brendan Ritchie, Declan Tharp, Nate Cobb and Billy Barr followed it up with a fourth place race. 

Senior Justin Huttenlocher won the 3-meter dive, scoring a 495.75.

Fathman won the 100 free, with a race of 53.90. Gettings was third in the event as well. For the men, Barr finished seventh.

Smith later won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.43. Classmate Glaser was fifth for the Britons. On the men's side, Tharp took fifth and Cobb placed eighth.

Smith added to her success by winning the 200 breaststroke with a race of 2:25.12 while Evers was seventh.

In the men's 200 breaststroke, Tharp placed fifth.

Freshman Emily Evers was fifth in the 400 IM with a time of 5:03.47. With a time of 4:24.63, Kelvin Crone-Willis was sixth in the same event. 

Gettings later went on to swim a 57.76, good for second in the 100 fly. Tharp's time of 52.06 earned the senior a third place finish in the men's race. Barr was two spots behind, taking fifth in the event.

In the 100 yard backstroke, Ritchie swam a 55.69 to take fifth.

Lauren Bailey and Nate Cobb each finished fourth in the 200 yard butterfly. Zako also scored for the men, coming in seventh place. 

Gettings, Cavanaugh, Smith and Fathman were second in the 400 free relay as Barr, Cobb, Zako and Tharp were third for the men's team.

Bryn Cavanaugh was sixth in the 1650 free, while Crone-Willis took fifth on the men's side. Russell Brown also scored for Albion, finishing eighth. 

AJ Zako finished eighth in the 200 free.

On Friday, Hannah Fathman won the 50 yard free with a time of 24.25. Narrowly behind her in third place was junior Sage Gettings, clocking in at 24.68.

The 400 medley relay team of Alexis Glaser, Mattie Smith, Gettings and Fathman took first with a time of 4:02.53 – eight seconds faster than the next team. The men's team finished third, composed of Brendan Ritchie, Declan Tharp, Nate Cobb and Billy Barr. The quartet finished with a time of 3:36.26.

Smith, a sophomore, earned a second place finish in the 200 IM. She clocked in at 2:11.85. For the men, Nate Cobb was also a second place finisher with a time of 1:59.74. 

Senior diver Justin Huttenlocher's score of 454.0 earned him a second place finish in the 1-meter dive. 

In the 200 free relay, the women's team placed second. The team of Gettings, Bryn Cavanaugh, Smith and Fathman raced a 1:40.14. On the men's side, the team of Nick Johns, Ritchie, Richard Pifer and Barr took fourth (1:27.74).

Earlier in the day, Cavanaugh took fourth in the 500 free (5:35.41).

Barr was fifth in the 50 free for the Britons, with a time of 21.1.7

At the end of the day Friday, the Briton women were in third with a score of 195, as the men were in fourth with 177 points. 

Next Friday, the teams will compete in a tri hosted by Hope College.
