Game Recap: Softball |

Home un-sweet home: tough home opener for SB

ALBION – It was a rough afternoon for the Albion College softball team, getting swept in their home opener by Oberlin College. The Yeowomen took the first game, 11-2, via run rule, while the bats went cold in a 3-0 loss in the nightcap.

GAME ONE: Oberlin 11 Albion 2

Albion had the momentum early, but it was short-lived as a 1-0 lead soon evaporated. Jacqueline Jozefczyk led off the inning with a single and moved to second when Megan Maiuri reached on an error. With two aboard, Lilly Patillo poked a single to left, loading the bases. Freshman Kearney Miller blooped a single up the middle, plating Jozefczyk and giving the Brits the lead.

Oberlin scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the third to take a lead.

The Yeowomen erupted for five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth to take a commanding lead. Albion used four pitchers in the game.

Albion's second run came late, when Mauri laced a double down the left field line. She later came around to score when senior middle Kacy Rossi smoked a single up the middle.

Oberlin smacked 11 hits in the contest and capitalized on a pair of Briton errors and five walks by the pitching staff.

GAME TWO: Oberlin 3 Albion 0

The Britons were unable to push across a run in the nightcap, mustering up just three hits in the loss.

Freshman Gabrielle Hirkaway had a strong outing in the circle, going the distance while allowing three runs and striking out three. The freshman did not walk or hit a batter.

The hits came from Maiuri, Jozefczyk and Rossi.

Albion is scheduled to host Defiance on Thursday. Dreary weather in the forecast may alter the plans, and all updates will be posted to gobrits.com and Albion Athletics social media.
