Trine takes two from softball

ALBION – It was a tough day on the diamond for the Albion College softball team, getting swept by Trine University, 9-0 and 7-2.

In game one, the Britons could only connect for one hit off of Adrienne Rosey, who hurled a gem in the circle for the Thunder. Senior Kacy Rossi was the lone base runner for the Britons, with a single in the third inning. 

Trine had three multi-run innings to lock down a 9-0 win after six.

Three Albion players had multi-hit games in game two – Rossi, Chloe Miller and Shanyn Jewell. 

Trine broke out to a 7-0 lead after three, as Albion scored one in the fifth and another in the sixth.

Rossi crushed a double to left center in the fifth and moved to third on a bunt by Rachel Horecki. Jewell, the junior shortstop, hit a soft line drive to left, plating Rossi for the first Albion run of the day. 

Kenadie Baareman doubled in the sixth and came around to score on a single by Miller, getting a great read from the Trine defense. 

The Britons slip to 8-16, 0-4 in the MIAA.

Albion will host Calvin on Thursday for games at 3 and 5 p.m.
