ANGOLA, Ind. — A six run sixth was the difference maker in the rubber match, as the Albion College baseball team dropped a 10-3 contest to Trine University. After winning game one Saturday, the Thunder battled to take the next two games of the series.
Matt McGann belted his fifth home run of the year, giving Albion a 1-0 lead in the fourth. The Brits doubled their lead in the fifth, courtesy of an unearned run.
Trine finally got to starter Sean Cooper in the sixth, striking for six runs off four hits and three free passes. After six, the hosts held a 6-2 advantage.
Albion's final run came in the seventh when Ryker Mazey singled and later scored on a Thunder error.
Trine broke the game open in the bottom of the inning, taking a 9-3 lead.
Though the postseason contention will need help, Albion can still secure a spot in the MIAA Tournament. On Thursday, Albion will host Calvin for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
