McCulloch wins Olivet Comet Opener

CHARLOTTE, Mich. — Megan McCulloch sprinted her way to a first place finish, leading the Albion College cross country team in the Olivet Comet Opener. No team scores were kept in the season opening meet and both genders ran a 5K.

McCulloch finished with a time of 18:45.00, edging out the second place runner by two seconds. The senior placed first in a field of 50 athletes.

Sophomore Fatima Cruz's time of 20:55.70 was good for 18th overall. Also finishing in the top half was classmate Olivia DeGraaf, taking 22nd with a time of 21:19.00.

With a time of 22:03.20, Helena Abbott was next for the Britons. Freshman Serena Arnold was just behind Abbott, clocking in at 22:45.00.

Bianca Wiegerink (23:01.80), Melanie Symons (24:22.40) and Kristina Dolgacheva (24:57.80) rounded out the team.

On the men's side, the Brits were led by Ikenna Achara, who finished with a time of 17:05.90. Freshman Connor Clark had a great first collegiate race, taking 27th with a time of 17:48.60.

At 18:05.60, Josiah Graddick crossed the finish line for the Britons, followed by Houston Bowen Jr. with a time of 18:18.80. Matt Record was next for Albion, finishing in 18:33.10.

Rounding out the squad was Ruark Wicka (19:13.20), Noah Flint (19:26.30), Paul Sutton (20:37.60), Dallas Wilson (21:05.50), Jordan Loukotka (21:18.90) and Chris Hernandez (22.10.20).

On Sep. 10, the teams will race at the Knight Invitational, hosted by Calvin University.
