Swim and dive sends seniors off with wins

ALBION – Four different pool records were broken on Senior Day, as the Albion College men's and women's swim and dive teams defeated Olivet. The men won by a 161-61 margin, as the women's team won 148-82.

Sophomore Mattie Smith was the first Brit to set a new pool record, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.33. Billy Barr was the next Brit to set a pool record, this one in the 100 free with a time of 46.36.

A time of 50.57 gave Declan Tharp the pool record in the 100 fly on his senior day.

Rounding out the day, the 200 free relay team of Barr, Ritchie, Cobb and Tharp set a new pool record.

Starting off the day, the women's 200 medley relay team of Sarah Griffiths, Mattie Smith, Sage Gettings and Hannah Fathman earned the win. The quartet is the defending MIAA Champion in the event. The men went on to win as well, led by Canon Rose, Brenne Curry, AJ Zako and Nick Johns.

With a time of 12:08, sophomore Olivia Perfili won the 1000 meter free.

Sage Gettings and Amani Lopez-Dunlap finished 1-2 in the 100 backstroke. Birthday girl Mady Laber was third in the event. Freshman Evan Steele won the 100 backstroke for the men.

Albion was 1-2-3 in the men's 100 backstroke thanks to Brennen Curry, Andrew Woods and Owen Schaaf.

Senior Nate Cobb won the 200 yard fly for the Brits.

In the 50 yard free, Hannah Fathman won with a time of 24.61. Barr won with a time of 21 flat. Fathman also went on to win the 100 yard free.

In 1m diving, Sarah Weissman won for the Brits with a score of 198.07. Senior Justin Huttenlocher qualified for Regionals with a score of 294.98.

Griffiths won the 200 backstroke as well for the Britons as Kelvin Crone-Willis won on the men's side.

Richard Pifer won the 500 freestyle on the men's side.

Albion will compete at the MIAA Championships Feb. 16-19 at Calvin University.
