14 record new personal bests at Mike Woods

GENESEO, N.Y. – In a race featuring nearly 400 runners from each gender, the Albion College cross country teams saw plenty of personal bests at the Mike Woods Invitational on Saturday morning. Freshman Logan Vining led the men's team while Fatima Cruz recorded the best time for the women's squad.

Vining was one of nine runners for the men's team that ran a new 8K personal best, as he clocked a 26:19.6. He was followed by fellow freshman Alexander Hammond's PR at 27:00.7.

Houston Bowen Jr. was part of four runners that finished in the 28-minute mark. Bowen Jr. finished in 28:11.1, as Ruark Wicka was just behind with a 28:11.6, also a new PR. Josiah Graddick (PR, 28:8.2) and Connor Clark (28:29.5) were the other Britons in that stretch.

Both Dalton Weber (29:46.7) and Heath LaPointe (29:48.7) ran personal bests on Saturday, followed by a race of 30:08.8 from Israel Aquino. Junior Dallas Wilson (30:11.0), Aden Rojas (30:14.3) and Robert Belf III (30:16.5) all logged new PRs as well.

Rounding out the men's race were Juan Lopez, Matt Record and Chris Hernandez.

Cruz's time of 24:04.5 led a young women's team, as Helena Abbott was just behind her in 24:10.2. The last five Albion runners that participated in Saturday's race all registered new personal bests for the 6K race.

With a time of 24:30.9, freshman Cassandra Gallagher was the next Briton to cross the finish line. Taylor Adams clocked a 26:43.9 as Veronica Paniccia finished in 27:20.3. Narrowly behind her was sophomore Melanie Symons with a 27:20.4, as Megan Chipman rounded out the team with a time of 29:23.3.

Albion will be in action on Oct. 28 at the MIAA Championships, hosted by Hope College at Three Fires Golf Club.
