Three win titles at MIAAs Day One

OLIVET, Mich. — After day one of the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Albion College track and field teams saw a number of podium finishes, PRs and qualifiers for Friday's running finals.

With 45 points, the men sit in second place, as the women are fourth with 30.

On Thursday, the Britons saw three win MIAA titles, including a sweep of the long jump.

Mason Darden defended his title in the hammer throw, winning by over two meters with a toss of 52.91 meters. He also scored in the shot put with a throw of 13.96 meters.

After winning the indoor long jump, Lauren McDowell also took first in the outdoor long jump with a leap of 5.10 meters.

Will Davis won the long jump after not competing in it all season with a leap of 7.12 meters.

Sophomore Tess Anthony had an incredible day in the ring, placing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 43.03 meters. She later took third in the shot put, marking 12.68 meters.

Also scoring in hammer was Ashley Booth, taking eighth with a throw of 36.90 meters.

Junior Eddie Hines picked up points for Albion with a throw of 15.29 meters to take third in the shot put. He also finished seventh in the hammer (44.23 meters).

Sophomore Brayden Stavros had a huge PR in the pole vault, claiming third place and clearing 4.05 meters.

In the long jump, Becca Ross scored by placing fifth for Albion. The senior finished with a jump of 4.97 meters.

Connor Dewan's throw of 13.66 meters earned him an eighth place finish, becoming the third Briton to reach the podium in the event.

Sophomore Fatima Cruz was eighth in the 10,000 meter run, clocking in at 41:01.08.

The teams will wrap up competition on Friday.
