Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Locke and Natschkes! Late heroics lift WSOC

Ryann Locke's game-winner helped Albion secure its first win of the season.

ALBION – Ron Rainey's first win at the helm of the Albion College women's soccer program surely was a memorable one, as the Brits knocked off Ohio Wesleyan University, 2-1. Ryann Locke scored the game-winning goal with 15 minutes to play in just her second game since transferring to Albion. That lead was preserved by the Natschke sisters down the stretch – including one phenomenal play.

The Britons got on the board in the 24th minute, courtesy of Avery Campbell. The senior's initial shot was blocked, but the ball bounced right back to Campbell's feet, beating the OWU keeper.

Three minutes later, the Battling Bishops evened the score with a penalty kick. The teams went into halftime deadlocked at one goal apiece.

In the 76th minute, the Brits worked their way to a corner kick. Avery Kasanic played a gorgeous ball into the box that was headed in by Locke. The goal vaulted Albion ahead with short time on the clock.

OWU continued to pressure the Albion defense and was inches from knotting the game up. With 2:35 on the clock, Albion keeper Romee Natschke jumped up to save a high shot. The rebound trickled towards the goal line, as sister and center back Quinn Natschke threw her body into the goal to save the game. Romee then collected the ball, thanks to Quinn's heroics, to keep momentum in favor of the hosts for the remainder of the match.

Albion moves to 1-1 on the young season.

Natschke made nine saves in goal for the Brits. Ohio Wesleyan held an edge in shots, 18-9.

The Britons will be idle for a week when they head to Wittenberg University for a 3:30 p.m. match.
