Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

May earns 200th win as MBB knocks off Kzoo

ALBION – Head coach Jody May earned his 200th career win in dramatic fashion, as a thunderous second half led the Albion College men's basketball team to a 78-73 victory over Kalamazoo College. Kam Mayes scored 20 points off the bench – 18 coming in the second half – keeping Albion's postseason hopes alive.

Mayes led all scorers with an 8 of 14 shooting performance. Also coming off the bench was senior guard Marco Lucchesi, who added 15 points. Both Kurtis Rhodes (11 points) and Nate Childers (10 points) finished in double figures as well.

In a back and forth first half, the Hornets took a 30-29 lead into the locker room. Midway through the second half with the Brits trailing by two, Albion went on a 9-0 run to swing the momentum in favor of the hosts.

Lucchesi converted an old-fashioned three point play, giving the Brits a one point lead. Coming off back to back stops, buckets from Mayes and Lucchesi lifted the lead to five points. After another basket by Lucchesi, Nathan Steinman swiped a pass at the top of the key, and took it coast to coast for a layup – forcing Kalamazoo to call timeout.

The Hornets trimmed the deficit to three points with four minutes on the clock, but another and one – this one from Mayes – eventually sealed the victory.

Albion was dominant in the paint, scoring 42 points compared to 22 by the Hornets.

The Britons head to Olivet on Saturday for the second half of a doubleheader. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
