Vining 10th, XC readies for MIAAs

MUSKEGON, Mich, – Wrapping up the regular season, the Albion College cross country teams ran at the Jayhawk Invitational on Saturday morning. This was the final tune-up before the MIAA Championship race on Nov. 2.

The women's team was sixth overall in the 5K race. Senior Olivia DeGraaf placed 19th with a time of 18:54.1. Cassandra Gallagher (19:38.4) and Fatima Cruz (19:49.2) were the next two Britons to cross the finish line. Serena Arnold (21:17.5), LaRayda Warnsley (21:19.7), and Taylor Adams (21:48.9) were all within a minute of each other, turning in strong performances.

Freshman Sienna Eaton ran a 22:37.1, and was followed by a 22:50.8 from Melanie Symons. Sophomore Veronica Paniccia was just behind Symons with a 22:58.9. Rounding out the Albion squad was Megan Chipman's 23:11.4 and Kyra Shouldice's 25:24.0.

Sophomore Logan Vining was tenth overall with a time of 25:56.9 while the men's team as a whole placed ninth. Classmate Alexander Hammond was next on the men's side, turning in a time of 27:19.8.

With a 27:56.1, Israel Aquino was next, followed by Ruark Wicka (28:30.5). Finishing within seconds of each other were Houston Bowen Jr. (28:46.1), Connor Clark (28:48.6), Karma Evans (28:52.4) and Dalton Weber (28:58.8).

Sam VanderWerf, Matt Lathom, Adan Rojas, Matthew Record, Dallas Wilson and Feijro Nakireru all raced as well.

On Nov. 2, the Britons will compete at the MIAA Championship, hosted by Calvin University.
