Women win as swim and dive begins 2024-25 season

ALBION – In their 2024-25 season debut, the Albion College swimming and diving teams hosted Kalamazoo College. In head coach Eric Murray's first meet at the helm, the women's team left no doubt, winning 132-87. On the men's side, the Britons came up just short, falling 122-102.

The women's 200 yard medley relay team won to open the event with a time of 1:53.99. The team was made up of Charlotte Nguyen, Mattie Smith, Mikala Muccino and Hannah Fathman. With a time of 1:42.40, the men's team of Evan Steele, Owen Schaaf, Ethan Boersma and Billy Barr was the runner-up.

In the 1,000 yard free, Olivia Perfili took third with a time of 12:47.82. On the men's side, Kelvin Crone-Willis won with a time of 10:40.49, as Caleb Galvan placed fourth (12:11.31).

Freshman Kaitlyn Kreb won the 200 yard free, clocking in at 2:06.84. In second was Muccino with a time of 2:18.04. Jalen Hung's time of 1:51.19 won the men's race, while Steele and Esteban Sanchez-Sink scored in the event as well. 

Fathman picked up right where she left off in the spring, winning the 50 free in 25.10. Both Laurel Campbell and Anna Gray scored on the women's team in the event. Richard Pifer (24.23) was second on the men's side, as Sanchez-Sink took fourth. 

Junior Emily Evers won the 200 yard IM (2:26.23) and Alexis Glaser was third (2:28.79). Alyssa Glaser was fifth, adding to the point total for Albion. In the men's race, Crone-Willis swam a 2:09.69 to win the event, and Hung was third with a time of 2:11.08. 

On the diving boards, Megan Shay (183.09) was third and Sarah Weissman (182.93) was fourth in the 1-meter dive. Cam Thompson was second in the men's event. In the 3-meter dive, Weissman took second, scoring a 176.02.

Smith later went on to win the 100 yard butterfly (1:02.24) the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.05). Boersma completed the sweep of the 100 fly, winning with a race of 54.91. 

Kreb also picked up a win in the 100 yard free (56.29) as Campbell was third (1:03.11). Barr's time of 48.79 was good enough to win the men's side, with Pifer and Sanchez-Sink taking third and fourth. 

Alexis Glaser (1:06.25) and Nguyen (1:08.78) went 1-2 in the 100 yard backstroke to add 13 points for the Brits. Evers and Hung later picked up another victory, this one in the 500 yard free. Evers clocked in at 5:56.83, with Hung winning the men's event in 5:08.83.

Wrapping up the event, both teams won their side of the 200 yard free relay. Kreb, Alexis Glaser, Nguyen and Fathman won for the women, as the men's team of Boersma, Pifer, Crone-Willis and Barr ended with a win. 

Next Friday, the Brits head to Calvin for the MIAA Relays, commencing at 5 p.m.
