Women's Swimming and Diving

Swim and dive splits tri-meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – In their first tri-meet of the season, the Albion College swimming and diving teams split with Aquinas and Olivet. Both the men's and women's teams defeated Olivet handily, but narrowly fell to Aquinas. 

Starting with the 200 medley relay, the Britons took second with a time of 1:50.55, made up of Alexis Glaser, Mattie Smith, Hannah Fathman and Kaitlyn Kreb. The men's team also placed second thanks to Jalen Hung, Owen Schaaf, Ethan Boersma and Billy Barr (1:42.62).

Olivia Perfili was fourth in the 1000 yard free, clocking a 12:24.80. Kelvin Crone-Willis (10:26.72) finished second and Caleb Galvan (12:17.24) took fourth. The trio also swam in the 500 yard free, with Perfili taking fourth, Crone-Willis also finishing fourth, and Galvan taking sixth. 

Kreb, a freshman, later went on to take second in the 200 yard free with a time of 2:06.80. Mikala Muccino's time of 2:23.21 was good for fifth in the event. Hung swam a 1:51.12 in the men's race to finish second. Junior Esteban Sanchez-Sink was sixth (2:04.54).

In the 100 yard backstroke, Alexis Glaser was fourth (1:05.15) and Charlotte Nguyen (1:09.90) was sixth. On the men's side, Evan Steele's time of 1:01.79 earned him fifth and Sanchez-Sink took seventh. 

Smith dominated the 100 yard breaststroke, winning with a time of 1:06.25. Alyssa Glaser was fourth, swimming a 1:17.95. Schaaf and Galvan were third and fourth in the men's event, respectively.

Muccino and Crone-Willis represented the Brits in the 200 yard butterfly. Muccino was third in the women's event (2:57.23) and Crone-Willis was second (2:11.48).

In the 50 yard free, Albion won both the men's and women's races. Fathman won on the women's side, turning in a 24.37. Ngyuen (26.70) and Laurel Campbell (28.25) also competed in the event. Barr's time of 21.37 earned him a win in the men's event. Senior Richard Pifer finished sixth, clocking a 24.28.

Albion's women took the top two spots in the 1-meter dive, as Sarah Weissman's 183.05 won her the event. Megan Shay was just behind in second with a score of 182.45. Scoring a 164.95 and finishing fifth was sophomore Sarah Kohler. On the men's side, Cam Thompson was fifth and Anders Forster took sixth. In the 3-meter dive, Weissman narrowly edged out Kohler, scoring a 185.60 to win. Kohler was second in the event with a 183.80.

Fathman and Barr later went on to win the 100 yard free. For the women, Campbell was fifth and Gray placed eighth as Boersma and Pifer were fifth and sixth on the men's side. 

Alexis Glaser (2:25.39) was third in the 200 yard backstroke and Nguyen was sixth (2:36.12). Steele was the lone Briton on the men's side, clocking a 2:12.69 for third place. 

Also claiming another victory was Smith, this one coming in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:28.10). Alyssa Glaser was fifth, while Schaaf and Sanchez-Sink were third and fourth on the men's side. Smith rounded out her day by winning the 200 yard IM in 2:15.25. Albion swept the 200 yard IM, with Hung's 2:05.53 winning the men's side. 

Ending the day, Albion was third in the 200 yard free relay with a time of 1:45.11 (Kreb, Nguyen, Campbell, Fathman). The men were second, recording a 1:31.48 (Boersma, Crone-Willis, Pifer, Barr). 

Albion will compete in a MIAA tri-meet this weekend at Calvin University.
