Swim and dive competes at MIAA Tri-Meet

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Back in action in another MIAA Tri-Meet, the Albion College swim and dive teams competed against Calvin University and Kalamazoo College. The women's team split, defeating Kalamazoo 121-103, but falling to the Knights, 189-52. The men's team dropped both, falling 132-92 to Kalamazoo and 187-49 to Calvin. 

The women's 200 yard medley relay team of Alexis Glaser, Alyssa Glaser, Mikala Muccino and Hannah Fathman took fourth overall in 1:58.09. On the men's side, the quartet of Jalen Hung, Owen Schaaf, Ethan Boersma and Billy Barr was seventh (1:41.91).

Kelvin Crone-Willis won the 1,000 yard free, clocking in at 10:34.93. Olivia Perfili swam a season-best 12:20.02, taking fifth in the women's race. Albion was led in the 200 free by Kaitlyn Kreb (2:08.61) and Steele (1:58.23).

In the 50 free, Fathman finished in 24.23 to win the event – winning all 50 free events so far this season. Freshman Charlotte Nguyen was sixth with a time of 26.60. Senior Mattie Smith (2:13.69) was third in the 200 yard IM. 

Sophomore Sarah Kohler's score of 175.10 earned her fourth in the 1-meter dive. With a score of 164.75, Megan Shay placed sixth. In the men's 1-meter, Cam Thompson scored a 121.50 for a season-best and finishing fourth. Anders Forster's 94.70 was also a season-high, good for fifth. In the 3-meter, Kohler (195.05) took third for the Brits.

Smith later was the runner-up in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:02.19. Boersma clocked a 54.66 in the men's event, taking sixth. Alexis Glaser finished fourth in the 100 yard backstroke (1:04.41), the only Brit on either side to claim a top-eight spot. 

In the men's 100 yard free, Barr swam a 47.24 to win the event. In the women's race, Kreb's time of 56.69 earned the freshman third. In eighth was Laurel Campbell's 1:03.40. 

Hung and Caleb Galvan were fourth and eighth in the 500 yard free. Hung turned in a time of 5:08.25, as Galvan swam a 6:00.51. Alyssa Glaser (1:16.06) and Emily Evers (1:16.86) were seventh and eighth in the 100 yard breaststroke. 

Rounding out the evening was the 400 yard free relay. The team of Smith, Kreb, Nguyen and Fathman swam a 3:50.03 for third, while Boersma, Hung, Crone-Willis and Barr were fifth. 

On Saturday, the Britons will swim in another tri-meet – this one non-conference – hosted by Wabash College. The meet commences at 2 p.m.
