Swim and dive falls short in Indiana

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – Taking on tough competition, the Albion College swimming and diving teams came up short against Centre and Wabash. The women fell to Centre , as the men dropped contests to Wabash (230-56) and Centre (236-56).

The women's 200 medley relay team started the meet off by taking second with a time of 1:55.49. The team was composed of Charlotte Nguyen, Mattie Smith, Mikala Muccino and Kaitlyn Kreb. On the men's side, the quartet of Evan Steele, Kelvin Crone-Willis, Owen Schaaf and Ethan Boersma was sixth.

Jalen Hung clocked a 10:53.99 in the 10,000 yard free to take fourth. In the 200 yard free, senior Olivia Perfili finished fifth overall.

Alexis Glaser's time of 1:05.13 was good for fourth in the 100 yard backstroke. Nguyen and Laurel Campbell placed sixth and seventh in the event, respectively. In the men's race, Billy Barr swam a 57.82 to take sixth.

Mattie Smith won the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:06.78. Both Alyssa Glaser and Emily Evers represented the Brits in the event, taking fifth and sixth. Muccino later placed fifth in the 100 yard fly, seeing Crone-Willis and Boersma finish in the top eight on the men's side.

Freshmen Kreb (fourth) and Anna Gray (seventh) competed in the 50 free. Barr won the men's race, clocking in at 21.74.

Megan Shay (171.10) and Sarah Kohler (163.80) went third and fourth in the 1-meter dive.

Senior Hannah Fathman won the 100 yard free with a time of 53.86. Campbell and Gray placed sixth and seventh. Barr was the runner-up in the men's event with a 48.70. The wins continued for the Britons as Smith earned her second of the day. The senior won the 200 yard breaststroke with a 2:28.09.

Fathman later won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.28.

Wrapping up the day, the women's 200 free relay team of Smith, Kreb, Campbell and Fathman finished second.

Next Friday, Albion will be at Calvin University for the annual Calvin Quad.
