DeGraaf All-MIAA, XC competes at championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Led by Olivia DeGraaf's All-MIAA performance, the Albion College cross country teams competed at the MIAA Championships on Saturday morning. DeGraaf finished 14th, clocking a PR of 23:02.9.

The men's team took sixth overall and the women were seventh.

Following DeGraaf, fellow senior Fatima Cruz was 36th with a 23:59.4. Next for Albion was Cassandra Gallagher with a race of 24:26.0. Laraya Warnsley and Serena Arnold followed, both clocking new personal bests of 26:17.7 and 26:20.4.

Sienna Eaton (27:32.1) and Melanie Symons (28:00.6) rounded out Albion's top seven.

Leading the way for the men was sophomore Logan Vining, whose PR of 26:09.6 earned him 30th place overall. Next for the Brits was classmate Alexander Hammond, finishing with a 27:19.8. With a time of 28:16.0, junior Israel Aquino was the third Briton to cross the finish line while Karma Evans raced a PR of 28:46.1.

Ruark Wicka crossed the finish line in 28:55.8, as Houston Bowen Jr. (29:11.4) and Sam Vanderwerf (29:29.1) rounded out Albion's top seven. Vanderwerf's time was a new personal best for the freshman.

Seven other Britons competed in the conference race, with Matt Lathom also recording a new PR (31:40.6).

Albion will gear up for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Nov. 16.
