Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Umeh drops 19 in Ohio finale

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Fueled by Michael Umeh's career-best 19 points, the Albion College men's basketball team finished the Lauren Hill Classic undefeated with an 84-81 win over Hiram College. Coming off the bench, Umeh poured in 19 points, going 7 of 10 from the field.

Albion improves to 4-2 overall, winners of two straight.

Hiram led for a majority of the first half, leading by as many as 11 points. Down six with five minutes before halftime, Dwayne Ray connected on a 3-pointer to bring the Britons to within one possession. Umeh got a steal at the other end, leading into a game-tying corner three from Truman King

The teams battled throughout the rest of the first half, with neither team able to find momentum. At halftime, the Terriers held a 51-50 lead.

The second half mirrored the first – with Hiram exploding to a 10-point advantage. An unfazed Albion squad slowly chipped away at the lead, and with nine minutes to play, fifth year Marco Lucchesi stepped up. Lucchesi hit a jumper plus the foul, converting the and-one lifting Albion ahead, 67-66.

Lucchesi's old-fashioned three-point play gave the Britons the lead for good, handing the Terriers their second loss of the season. Lucchesi finished with 12 points, as Ray was the other Britons in double figures with 10.

Four players scored eight points, combining to go 6 of 11 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Kurtis Rhodes was one of those four, leading with four assists as well.

With Umeh leading the charge, Albion received 48 points from its bench, while Hiram finished with nine bench points.

The Britons will be idle until Dec. 17 when they host Aurora University for a noon contest.
