Fathman, Smith lead swim and dive at MIAAs Day 2

HOLLAND, Mich. — Two school records highlighted day two at Day 2 of the MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Hannah Fathman won the 50 yard free with a time of 22.82, setting a new school and MIAA record. With that time, she currently sits second in the country. 

Junior Mattie Smith swam a 2:07.62 in the 200 yard IM, setting a new school record while claiming fifth place. 

On Wednesday evening, the 800 yard free relay team of Jacob Hyde, Andrew Woods, Mason Rose and Evan Steele placed eighth with a time of 7:21.64. The women's team also placed eighth, composed of Olivia Perfili, Alexis Glaser, Mikala Muccino and Bryn Cavanaugh. The quartet swam a 8:25.59. Also scoring with an 11th place finish was the team of Emily Evers, Katie Flynn, Lauren Bailey and Alyssa Glaser

Thursday evening started off with the men's 200 free relay team placing fourth with a time of 1:27.15. The team was made up of Ethan Boersma, Canon Rose, Mason Rose and Billy Barr

In the women's race, Sage Gettings, Cavanaugh, Smith and Fathman took third, swimming a 1:36.65.

Kelvin Crone-Willis and Evan Steele scored in the 500 free, taking 13th and 16th, respectively. With a time of 5:18.23, Cavanaugh was ninth in the women's event. 

Woods and Hung competed in the 200 IM, with finishes of 12th and 14th. In addition to Smith's fifth place school record in the women's race, Alexis Glaser (11th), Emily Evers (14th) and Alyssa Glaser (16th) represented the Britons. 

Billy Barr finished ninth in the 50 free, turning in a time of 21.21. Mason Rose was 16th. Gettings recorded a 24.72 to finish 11th in the women's race. 

Sophomore Jeremy Romero was fifth in the men's 1-meter dive, scoring a 349.15.

Ending the night was the 400 medley relay. The men's team of Canon Rose, Boersma, Woods and Zako swam a 3:32.51, good for fourth place. The women's quartet of Alexis Glaser, Smith, Gettings and Fathman was third, clocking a 3:52.93.

After Day 2, the women sit in third place with the men in fourth. 

Tomorrow, the Britons continue the MIAA Championship meet, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. All video can be seen at miaasportsnetwork.com and live results can be found on MeetMobile.
