Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's lacrosse starts DiRado era, 2024 with win

ALBION – In the debut of the Emily DiRado era, the Albion College women's lacrosse team started the 2024 season with a 14-13 victory over Aquinas College. In the latest NAIA National Poll, the Saints were ranked tenth.

Junior Kyndall Lewis led Albion with six points coming off four goals and a pair of assists. She was 3 for 4 on free position shots. Aaliyah Eudabe added five points, also scoring four goals and dishing out an assist.

Midway through the first quarter, Kellie Flynn broke a scoreless tie with a goal off a feed from Eudabe. Less than a minute later, Logan Hutchinson lifted the Britons to a 2-0 lead. An Aquinas goal was answered by a goal from Eudabe, seeing the hosts lead 3-1 after one.

The two teams combined for 10 goals in the second quarter. Ellen Chown scored two goals, one coming on a man-down attempt. With 1:22 to play in the half, Flynn scored her second goal of the day, pushing the Britons ahead 8-6 at the half.

Two of Lewis's goals came in the third quarter, as another late strike from Chown gave the Brits a three-goal cushion heading into the final 15 minutes.

Aquinas scored three quick goals to cut the Albion lead to 13-12 with just over 10 minutes remaining. Lewis came in clutch with a goal with 6:30 to play, giving Albion a 14-12 lead. As the Saints trimmed the lead to one goal again, Albion's defense held tough down the stretch – including a stellar save from Nicole Miller in the final minute.

Miller made 12 saves in the win. Six different Britons registered points in the win. Fifth year senior Audrey DeWaters controlled eight draws, as Julia Ames led all players with four caused turnovers. Eudabe and Lewis led the Brits with five ground balls apiece.

The Britons were 18 of 21 on the clear.

On Wednesday, the Britons host Bethel for a 6 p.m. game.
