Softball begins 2024 season on Friday

ALBION – After some last-minute changes, the Albion College softball team got its 2024 season underway Friday afternoon. Despite being swept by Goshen College, the Britons saw plenty of good things in an extremely young lineup. 

GAME ONE: Goshen 6 Albion 1

Both of Albion's hits in game one came off the bat of Parker Douglass. The Leafs took a 3-0 run before the Britons put together a rally in the bottom of the fourth. Dylan Cardinale reached on a fielder's choice and freshman Jessie Anstandig was hit by a pitch. Senior outfielder Courtney Ellis drew a walk to load the bases. Pinch hitter Kearney Miller drew a walk, bringing in Cardinale for a 3-1 deficit. 

Goshen tacked on three runs in the top of the fifth to regain a large lead. Freshman Emma Schramm reached base twice, drawing a pair of walks in the loss. Schramm also stole a base. 

GAME TWO: Goshed 13 Albion 1 (5 innings)

In game two, Albion recorded three hits by all different players. Freshman Kierstin Wilkin recorded the lone RBI for Albion with a base hit. Cardinale and Allie Trantham finished with one hit apiece. 

The Brits will be idle until Mar. 3 when they are on Spring Break in Myrtle Beach.
