Game Recap: Softball |

Softball stays hot, sweeps on Tuesday

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – It's officially 'Take Two Tuesday.'

Keeping their hot streak intact, the Albion College softball team won two games on Tuesday on day three of their spring trip. The Britons knocked off Wilson College, 11-5, before a stellar performance to defeat PSU-Abington, 5-1.

GAME ONE: Albion 11 Wilson 5

After an RBI groundout and a bases loaded walk, Megan Maiuri ripped a single to center to drive in Kearney Miller for a 3-0 lead. Despite the Britons losing a 3-0 lead, they immediately fought back to put up a 6-spot in the top of the fourth to break the game open.

Jacqueline Jozefczyk started the inning with a walk and advanced 60 feet on a Courtney Ellis single. An error from Wilson gave the Brits their first run of the frame. Jessie Anstandig's outstanding week continued with a two run single. The final three runs of the frame came via Wilson errors for a 9-3 lead through four.

Albion tacked on two insurance runs in the sixth. After Anstandig singled, Dylan Cardinale drove in the freshman with a base hit. Ellis smacked her game-best third hit of the game to drive in Cardinale for Albion's final run.

Alaina Brown earned the win in relief, tossing four innings without allowing an earned run.

GAME TWO: Albion 5 PSU-Abington 1

Despite allowing a run in the second, the Britons scored five unanswered to complete the sweep on the day and extend their win streak to five games. Anstandig led off the inning with a double and two batters later, scored on a RBI single from Cardinale. Freshman Emma Schramm drove in Cardinale on a single to left, giving Albion a 2-1 lead through two.

Ellis's leadoff single in the third led to a run, as she was driven in off a double down the left field line by Parker Douglass. In desperate need of insurance runs, the Britons got exactly that in the home half of the sixth. In a string of four straight hits, Schramm doubled home a run before Jozefczyk lifted a sac fly for a 5-1 cushion.

Lilly Zaskowski went the distance in the circle, allowing just one run and five hits while walking just one.

Both Schramm and Cardinale led the way with two hits apiece.

On Wednesday, the Britons look to extend their win streak with games against PSU-Schuylkill and Saint Elizabeth with games set for 3 and 5 p.m.
