McGann, Stojanovski combine for six hits in loss

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A five-game win streak was snapped on Thursday, as the Albion College baseball team dropped a 7-6 decision to Penn State-Altoona. A 5-spot in the top of the seventh proved costly for the Brits in the contest.

Kris Stojanovski was a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate with two RBI and a walk. Senior catcher Matt McGann was 3 for 5 – all three hits were doubles – and he scored three runs.

The Britons plated a run in each of the first three innings. Mark Lauro cranked a double to right field and two batters later scored when Stojanovski smashed an opposite field triple to right. In the second, Albion's run came when Jack Lasceski led off the inning with a double and was driven in by the red-hot Ryker Mazey

Stojanovski wreaked havoc on the bases, helping the Brits scratch across a run in the fifth. After a leadoff walk, he moved to second on a passed ball and swiped third. With one out, Lasceski lifted a foul ball down the right field line. As the first baseman moved back for the out, Stojanocski tagged up to draw a throw. The throw went wild, allowing Stojanovski to score and lifting Albion to a 4-0 advantage.

The Lions tacked on five in the seventh that made for a 6-4 lead. In the home half of the frame, the Britons got back one of the runs with an Evan Schuster sac fly. In the top of the ninth, the Lions tacked on an insurance run, proving huge as the Britons left the tying runner stranded.

Albion heads up north to Franklin to begin a three-game set with the Grizzlies on Saturday. Game times are scheduled for 12 and 3 p.m.
