Women's lacrosse throttles Belles in MIAA opener

ALBION – Backed by six goals from Kyndall Lewis, the Albion College women's lacrosse team dominated in its MIAA opener. The Britons defeated Saint Mary's College 19-6 on Friday evening, improving to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the league. 

Junior Aaliyah Eudabe netted five goals for the Brits, as Audrey DeWaters had a goal and a team-high three assists. 

The Britons opened the game up on a 3-0 run, with two goals from Kellie Flynn and one from Eudabe. After a goal by the Belles, Albion put up two more before the end of the period, thanks to another from Eudabe and one from Logan Hutchinson

In the second, the Brits outscored the visitors by a 7-3 margin. Throughout the period, five different players netted goals, led by two from Lewis and Eudabe. Hutchinson, Flynn and DeWaters tallied the other goals for a 12-4 halftime lead. 

After a STM goal to open the new half, the Britons fired off six straight in the third period to reach the 10-goal threshold. Lewis started the run followed by goals from Hayla-Lyn Gilly and Ellen Chown. The Britons remained on cruise control for the remainder of the contest, giving head coach Emily DiRado her first conference win. 

Sophomore goalie Nicole Miller made six saves in net, earning her fourth win of the season. 

Lewis caused a team-best four turnovers and picked up five ground balls. DeWaters controlled seven draws in the victory. 

As a team, Albion was efficient on the clear, converting 17 of 21 attempts. 

The Brits will host Trine University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
