Schienke, Smego sweep MIAA sports info awards

The Albion College sports information department swept the yearly MIAA awards, as announced on Tuesday. Recent graduate Jenna Schienke was the Tom Renner Award recipient, while Sports Information Director Marissa Smego won the Robin Hartman Writing Award.

Schienke worked in the sports information office all four years at Albion, while also being a crucial part of the volleyball team and holding executive positions in SAAC.

"I could not be more proud of Jenna – this is a testament to the work she's done in my office over the last four years," said Smego. "There was never a task too mundane or too complicated for Jenna. She was willing to do whatever to help out not only myself, but the coaches and athletes here to make Albion Athletics better."

Schienke was the game day contact and primary statistician for men's and women's lacrosse, provided roster and historical updates to gobrits.com, was in charge of Albion's partnership with HomeTown Ticketing and many more items. She was also a key part of the football and men's lacrosse teams hosting NCAA First Round games in 2021-22.

"Harper has impacted so many people at Albion beyond the men's lacrosse program – including myself. I cannot thank Harper, the Mathis Family and Albion men's lacrosse for allowing me to share her story and let those outside of the program know how special, brave and incredible she is," said Smego.

This is the first time in history that an Albion student has won the Renner Award, and the first time since the 2010-11 school year where the same school swept the honors.
