XC: Women second, men third at Comet Invitational

OLIVET, Mich. — On Opening Day, the Albion College cross country teams had a solid showing at the Comet Invitational. The women's team placed second and the men took third overall.

Bianca Wiegerink led Albion in the 2.9 mile race, finishing with a time of 18:22.2 and finishing third overall. Just behind her in fourth was senior Fatima Cruz, running a 18:28.4. Sophomore Cassandra Gallagher (18:47.5) and Olivia DeGraaf (19:07.1) were next for Albion, as Serena Arnold was the fifth Briton to cross the finish line (21:05.8).

With a time of 21:11.1, Taylor Adams was next, as Melanie Symons, Veronica Paniccia and Megan Chipman rounded out the participants.

For the men's team, sophomore Logan Vining led the way with a ninth place finish and a time of 15:19.4. Alexander Hammond was next for the Brits, taking fourth with a race of 15:52.9. Connor Clark's 16:28.1 was next followed by a 16:35.5 from Tyson Evans.

Houston Bowen Jr. was the next Briton to place, as Dalton Weber rounded out the team. Ruark Wicka, Sam Vanderwerf and Adan Rojas all competed as well for Albion.

The teams will be in action next Saturday at the Franklin Invitational.
