Cross country has solid day at Grizzly Invitational

FRANKLIN, Ind. – In their first 8K and 6Ks of the season, the Albion College cross country teams fared well at the Franklin Grizzly Invitational. The women's team placed seventh out of 21 teams, while the men took 14th.

Bianca Wiegerink led Albion, placing 20th overall and running a 23:38.87. Senior running mates Fatima Cruz (24:06.96) and Olivia DeGraaf (24:07.49) were neck and neck, as Cassandra Gallagher was next with a race of 25:08.59.

With a time of 27:02.97, Serena Arnold was the next Briton to cross the finish line, while Taylor Adams ran a 27:23.72. LaRayda Warnsley finished in 28:19.50, followed by a 28:43.39 from Sienna Eaton. Rounding out the squad were Melanie Symons (29:08.71), Veronica Paniccia (29:48.59) and Kasey Kerner (30:26.76).

Sophomore Logan Vining paced the men's team, running a 27:02.13. Classmate Alexander Hammond was next, clocking in at 27:14.16. Connor Clark finished in 28:58.34, while fifth year Houston Bowen Jr.'s time was 29:34.87. All within seconds of each other were Israel Aquino (29:40.63), Dallas Wilson (29:44.55) and Ruark Wicka (29:49.59). The final Brit was Tyson Evans, clocking in at 30:47.93).

Albion will be idle until the Knight Invitational on Sep. 28, hosted by Calvin. It will be a preview of the course the team will run for the MIAA Championship meet.
