NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- A monstrous first half powered the Albion College men's basketball team to a commanding 90–60 win at Westminster on Friday night, pushing the Britons to 3–0 on the season.
Albion wasted little time taking control. After trading baskets in the opening minutes, the Britons strung together a 14–2 run fueled by defensive stops and quick transition points.
Michael Umeh and
Kam Mayes each scored through contact during the stretch, while the Briton defense forced four straight empty possessions to open a double-digit lead.
With a staggering 42-21 lead at the end of the opening stanza, the second half was more of the same as the Britons maintained complete control. Albion shot above 53% throughout the second half and stretched its lead to as many as 35 points. The Brits dominated in the paint as they outscored Westminster, 50-28 down low.
Umeh paced Albion with 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. The senior pulled down 10 rebounds for the double-double.
Kurtis Rhodes added 14 points in a highly efficient 6-of-7 effort, and Mayes matched him with 14 points and seven boards. Twelve different Britons cracked the scoring column.
Albion finished the night shooting 55.7 percent from the floor and 7-of-13 from three while holding Westminster to just 30.8 percent overall and 6-of-33 from deep.
