WASHINGTON, Mich. -- Goals were a plenty in Albion men's soccer's season-opening match.
Playing Rochester Christian at the Michigan Stars Sports Center, the Britons rattled off four scores -- three of which came in the second half -- to upend the Warriors, 4-1.
It was the most goals Albion had scored since October 11, 2023 against Adrian.
Esteban Mercado recorded the initial strike for Albion nine minutes into the contest on a pass from Binck Jan Bakker, but RCU answered nearly four minutes later on a score to knot the match at 1-1 where it stayed at the half.
A Warrior foul in the box during the 56th minute prompted a penalty kick for the Britons, which Mercado buried to break the tie, 2-1.
Albion never let up from there, as
Pablo Caturla Rubio scored off the bench over 10 minutes later and
Ryan Anderson notched the final goal in the 73rd minute.
The Warriors out-shot the Britons, 12-11, and also had eight corner kicks compared to Albion's one.
Tom Veresh played all 90 minutes in net, and 13 Albion players saw time off the bench.
