ALBION, Mich. -- The Albion College men's soccer team strapped up its shooting boots once again on Saturday afternoon, as the Britons raced past Heidelberg University, 3-0, at Alumni Field.
Across their last three matches, Albion has scored 15 goals to bring its season total to 21, outpacing last season's goal total through six matches. The Britons are riding their longest winning streak since 2019, when they won five consecutive tilts.
After a quiet first half that saw an opening goal waved-off for Albion's
Jasek Zielaskowski due to an offsides call, the Britons came alive in the second half with three goals bury the Student Princes.
Esteban Mercado got the scoring started a 1:42 in the frame.
Robin Ruigendijk worked down the right hand side and fed a ball back towards the middle for Mercado. The sophomore rifled a shot into the top left corner to give Albion a 1-0 advantage.
The Britons continued to pressure Heidelberg as the game wore on, which resulted in a 22-9 edge in shots. Albion eventually broke through again in the 76th minute as
Joshua Jasinkiewicz netted his first goal as a Briton off of a feed from
Lucas Medina. Albion put the game out of reach a little over three minutes later, as
Pablo Caturla Rubio tallied his second goal of the season after a nifty pass from Mercado.
Tom Veresh played the full 90 minutes in goal and registered two saves to earn his fifth clean sheet of the season.
