ALBION, Mich. -- The Albion College men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory over Indiana-South East on Sunday morning in the squad's final tuneup prior to ITA Regionals.
The Britons got off to a solid start in doubles, with
Josh Doyle and
Jacob Doyle leading the way with a 6-3 win at the top flight.
Carter Kendall and
Connor Schultz added a dominant 6-1 victory at third doubles, while
Brady Pettit and
Alex Beard fell 6-3 in the second flight, keeping the match close early.
Singles play saw Albion take control, turning the early momentum into a decisive win.
Alex Beard edged past Paxton Evitts in a pair of tense tiebreak sets, 7-6, 7-6, while
Josh Doyle cruised at No. 4 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Connor Schultz and
Malcolm Johnson added straight-set wins at Nos. 5 and 6, 6-3, 6-4, and 6-2, 6-1, respectively, to seal the match for the Britons.
Carter Kendall battled hard at first singles, but fell in three sets to Trey Gutsgeu, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
