KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Albion College men's basketball team leaned on scoring balance and a strong second half to earn an 81-71 road win over Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Athletic Center.
The victory moved Albion to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while Kalamazoo slipped to 3-10 and 0-2 in conference action.
Albion set the tone early, controlling the pace and building a narrow lead in the opening half. The Britons carried a 31-28 advantage into halftime, then turned up the offensive efficiency after the break. Albion shot 50.0% (15-for-30) from the floor in the second half, answering every Hornet run with timely baskets to keep control of the contest. Albion dominated in the paint throughout the contest and outscored Kalamazoo, 38-28, down low.
The Britons showcased their depth on the offensive end, placing five players in double figures.
Michael Umeh and
Kurtis Rhodes led the way with 15 points apiece, while
BJ Hunter followed with 12.
Mason Brodi and
Dwayne Ray rounded out the balanced attack, each finishing with 10 points. Umeh added a physical presence inside, pulling down 13 rebounds to complete a double-double and anchor Albion on the glass.
