Thunder Storm Past Britons in Second Half in MIAA Tournament

ANGOLA, Ind. — The No. 5 seeded Albion men's basketball team's season came to an end, as they were upended by No. 4 seeded Trine, 94-77, in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.

The Thunder took a 22-12 advantage in the first six and a half minutes of the game and kept their advantage at 10 points on four more occasions in the next three minutes.

However, the Britons began to chip at the Trine lead afterwards and went on a 21-9 run. A Kurtis Rhodes triple with 3:29 left allowed Albion to take their first lead, 41-39, since the early stages of the contest.

Kameron Mayes scored the Britons' final four points of the half and took a 45-44 advantage into the intermission.

The Britons held their lead in the first three and a half minutes of the first half, but it evaporated for good as the Thunder rolled to a 17-6 run to take a 10-point lead with 12:18 left.

The Britons' deficit remained in double digits for the rest of the game, with Trine taking as much as a 20-point lead on two occasions and outscored Albion 50-32 in the stanza.

Michael Umeh notched a double-double in his final collegiate game with 16 points and 14 rebounds — 10 of which were on the offensive glass. Mayes posted 14 points, and Dwayne Ray recorded 15 points off the bench.

For the game, Trine shot 59.3% from the field and 45.8% from beyond the arc. They had six players score in double figures, including Nate Tucker who had 30 points.

The Britons ended their season with a 14-12 record (7-7 MIAA) — their first winning season since 2021-22.
