ALBION, MI — Albion College announced it has parted ways with head football coach Travis Rundle, who was in his fourth season leading the Britons. A two-time All-MIAA quarterback for the program, Rundle took over as head coach for the Britons in 2023, and compiled an overall record of 17-17 (9-12 MIAA). Stephen Wasil, current offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has been named interim head coach of the football program for the remainder of the 2026 season, effective immediately. 

Wasil is in his 20th year with the Britons, having joined the program in 2006 as wide receivers coach. He served as quarterbacks coach from 2013 to 2018 and has been offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach since 2019. 

"We are grateful to Coach Wasil for agreeing to take on this interim role through at the season's midpoint and through the remainder of the 2026 season," said Athletic Director Jennifer Rushton. "I know Coach Wasil shares our desire to return the program to its winning ways, while providing the best possible experience on and off the field for members of our football team during this period of transition." 

Under Wasil, Albion's offense has consistently ranked among the most productive in the MIAA. In his tenure as offensive coordinator, the Britons have led the conference in passing offense four times, total offense three times, and scoring twice. They have averaged more than 400 yards of total offense and 30 points per game in six of his seasons calling plays, producing four MIAA Offensive MVP selections. 

In 2024, Albion fielded the No. 5 passing attack in Division III (320.4 yards per game) and led the nation in completion percentage (75.3%). Quarterback Luke Lovell earned second-team All-MIAA honors after throwing for 2,924 yards and 29 touchdowns, both top-20 marks in Division III. During a transition season in 2025, Alex Trudell rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns - the most rushing yards by a Briton since 2015. 

Wasil's ties to Albion run deep. A standout three-year starting quarterback for the Britons, he graduated as the program's all-time leading passer. As a junior in 2004 he earned second-team All-MIAA honors after throwing for 1,719 yards and 18 touchdowns, and in 2005 he was named MIAA Offensice MVP, throwing for 3,313 yards and 33 touchdowns en route to a conference title. He remains the only 3,000 yard single-season passer in program history and was inducted into Albion's Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018. 

Following graduation, Wasil spent six seasons playing arena football at various levels. His most productive campaign came in 2012 with the Tampa Bay Storm, when he started all 14 games and threw for 3,664 yards and 71 touchdowns while finishing second in the league with 19 rushing scores. The previous season, with the Kansas City Command, he started the final five games and threw for 1,385 yards and 26 touchdowns. 

Wasil majored in physical education at Albion College and later earned a Master's in Athletic Administration from Western Kentucky University. A graduate of Detroit Catholic Central High School, he was a member of the Shamrock's 2001 Division I state championship team and was inducted into the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame in 2006.
