A member of two Onondaga Community College teams that captured junior college national championships and Merrimack College teams that competed in the NCAA Division II tournament, Nick DiRado joined the Albion College men’s lacrosse coaching staff in the fall of 2015.
As the coordinator of the defense, DiRado provided the coaching as faceoff specialist Kyle DeCamp, defenders Dave Brown and Matt Lowes and goalkeeper Brad Bogus achieved all-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association status in 2016. Albion led the MIAA in ground balls, DeCamp was the NCAA Division III statistical champion in ground balls per game and Bogus' 59.2 save percentage in contests against conference rivals was second-best in the MIAA.
The defense allowed 46 goals, fewest in the MIAA, during play against conference rivals in 2017. The Britons were rewarded as DeCamp picked as the conference's MVP on defense, and DeCamp joined goalkeeper Trevor McManus and defenders Brown and Lowes as all-MIAA first team picks.
DiRado completed his bachelor of arts degree in digital design at Merrimack in May, 2015, where he was a Dean’s List student in addition to participating in a program for kids with life threatening illnesses and the men’s lacrosse team.
He gained coaching experience with Total Sports in Wixom, Mich., from 2011-2015. He worked summer camps that targeted skill improvement, specific position work, game situations and team instruction.
Originally from Northville, Mich., DiRado’s father, Joe, ’86, was a physics major, his sister, Melissa, ’12, was a member of the Briton swimming and women’s lacrosse teams, and his brothers, Nathan, ’17, is a defensive lineman on the Briton football team, and David, ’19, is a attacker for the Briton men’s lacrosse team.
