Shanta Loecker

Shanta Loecker Shanta Loecker developed the Albion program into a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion squad in just four seasons.

Taking over a program that did not win a game in 2012, she worked tirelessly to grow the roster and she had the drive and patience to teach the most basic skills to her student-athletes. Her teaching paid off in the form of five victories in her first season (2013) and the win total has continued to rise. The Britons finished 8-8 in 2014, 15-3 in 2015 and 10-7 in 2016. The 2015 squad won the MIAA Tournament to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championship. The 2016 team completed an undefeated run through the MIAA during the regular season to achieve the program's first league championship.

Loecker guided Albion to its third season with at least 10 wins in 2018, and her record at Albion stands at 54-42 after six seasons.

Loecker's student-athletes are known for being students of the game, committed and hard working.

Under Loecker's guidance, Albion student-athletes have achieved four MIAA Most Valuable Player awards, 31 all-MIAA awards and three all-region selections.

In 2014, Loecker was appointed Offensive Coordinator of Scotland's Senior National Team as they prepare for the 2017 FIL Senior Women's World Cup.  She continues to serve as coach of Briton Women's Lacrosse in addition to the position.

Loecker led one of the nation’s premier club programs at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before receiving her appointment at Albion on July 19, 2012. In her three seasons as head coach, the Bruins amassed an overall record of 37-23, eight student-athletes were Women's Collegiate Lacrosse Association All-Americans and 12 were all-Western Women's Lacrosse League selections. She was named the WWLL’s Division 1 Coach of the Year in 2012.

A mass communication studies major at UCLA, Loecker started at attack for the Bruins’ “A” Team from 2003-2006. The captain and team president, she was awarded first team all-league status her senior year.

In addition to coaching at UCLA, Loecker has coached for Rapids Lax, Michigan Cyclones, Starz Lacrosse and West LA Lacrosse, as well assisted with camps throughout the Midwest and California. She spoke at the 2012 U.S. Lacrosse National Convention representing the WCLA.

Loecker began her lacrosse career in the Midwest, where she played four years at Evanston (Ill.) Township High School. A four-year varsity starter, she was placed on the All-State second team her junior year, and the All-State first team while serving as captain her senior year. Loecker played with Team Illinois at various national tournaments, including the All-Star Express, Vail Shoot-Out, and USL Women’s Division National Tournament.

She also was a member of the basketball and cross country squads at ETHS.
