EAST GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Several Albion College swimmers turned in impressive performances as the Britons opened the season in a dual meet against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Calvin College. Calvin won the meet, 163-125.
"I thought we swam as well or better than expected," Albion head coach Keith Havens said. "The lifetime-best times in the first meet is a good sign."
The squad was led by Ty Lattimore and Scott Venettis. Lattimore took first place in both 1- and 3-meter diving, and Venettis was the winner of the 100 and 200 breaststroke events. Venettis cruised to his victories, winning the 100 by a three-second margin and the 200 by eight seconds.
Ryan Gunderson sprinted to a one-second victory in the 50 freestyle.
Albion will swim again Friday when it travels to Hillsdale College for a double dual meet against the Chargers and the University of Findlay.
