Box Score Running back Darrin Williams rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns and he caught four passes for 76 yards and the defense collected a pair of interceptions as Albion College secured a 24-3 victory over Alma College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action.
Alma scored on its second possession as it marched 65 yards. The drive bogged down when lineman C.J. Carroll threw quarterback Jarrett Leiser for a 4-yard sack and the Scots had to settle for a 38-yard field goal by Jack Pryde on the first play of the second quarter.
Albion scored on two of its three possessions in the second quarter.
The Britons overcame a holding penalty on the first scoring drive. Williams rushed for 14 yards on second-and-14, but a personal foul gave the Britons a fresh set of downs at the Alma 23. Williams later scored on a 6-yard run.
A roughing the kicker call on a punt gave Albion a fresh set of downs on its next possession. With the ball in Alma territory, quarterback Dominic Bona hooked up with Zach Brewer for a 31-yard touchdown.
Albion extended the margin to 17-3 as it took the second half kickoff and marched 64 yards to get in position for a 20-yard field goal by Jimmy Nieman.
Terron Bridgeman's first career interception set up Williams' 4-yard touchdown run to complete the scoring with 1:10 to play.
Albion held a 356-228 advantage in total yards and a 17-8 edge in first downs. Bona completed 13-of-22 passes for 179 yards, Brewer (54 yards) and Brian Spencer (32 yards) hauled in three receptions apiece.
Carroll finished the day with two tackles for loss and Wes Dolen and Mark Sheridan were each credited with tackles for loss. Devin Burnett and Brett McCarty led the defense with five tackles each. Mike Vandermus collected Albion's first interception of the game.
Albion continues league play on the road next Saturday when it makes the short drive to Olivet College.
