Albion Swimmers Strong at Top of Lineup

ALBION – Through two weeks of the swimming & diving season Albion College has learned it has pretty good athletes at the top of its lineup. Despite losses in a Saturday dual meet to Kalamazoo College, Brad Fiorillo, Anna Hargrove, and Julie Okorn earned first place in their respective events.

Fiorillo, a junior from Southgate, swept the sprint freestyle events and he had large winning margins. His 50-yard time of 21.48 seconds was more than a half-second better than the second-place performer and he reached the wall 1.6 seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer in the 100.

Okorn, a junior from West Bloomfield, swam to first place in the 200 backstroke (2:21.49) and 400 individual medley (4:56.33). Like Fiorillo, Okorn finished well ahead of her competitors as she was nearly three seconds faster than the runner-up in the backstroke and nearly seven seconds ahead of the field in the medley.

Hargrove, a first-year swimmer from Milan, was the first to finish the 100 freestyle. She completed her race in 57.23 seconds.

Divers Lauren Rao and Amy Bell were unopposed. Rao won both events with scores of 205.85 on 1-meter and 208.75 on 3-meter.
