CHICAGO – Julie Okorn put an exclamation point on a fine performance in the University of Chicago Invitational Saturday, winning the 200-yard butterfly and finishing close to the school record in a runner-up finish in the 400 individual medley.
Okorn's winning time in the butterfly was 2:11.68. She completed the race nearly four seconds ahead of the second-place swimmer.
Okorn approached the school record in the IM, completing the race in 4:42.63. The school record, set by Audrey Janelle more than 20 years ago, stands at 4:42.38.
Okorn joined Anna Hargrove, Laura Steavenson, and Mackenzie Chesley for a third-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay. Hargrove added a fourth-place finish in the 100 bacstroke.
Brian Fiorillo turned in the best individual finish in men's events, earning third place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.28 seconds.
Also for the Albion men, Tom Parsons finished sixth in the 100 backstroke (56.94 seconds), Landon Lefler finished seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:04.25), and Brad Melpolder was seventh in the 1,650 freestyle (17:26.35).
Albion returns to dual meet competition against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rivals Saturday when it visits Olivet College.
