GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Brian Fiorillo, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's Most Valuable Swimmer in 2013, picked up where he left off Saturday as he helped Albion College secure first place in two events and second place in another during the league's season-opening relay meet.
Albion finished first in the 500-yard freestyle progressive race and the 200-yard freestyle. Joining Fiorillo in the 500 were Loren Bazzell, Landon Lefler, and Josh Boren. Fiorillo swam the first leg on the 200, but it was first-year athlete Derek Bosko, swimming the anchor, that brought home first place. Austin Bateman and Tom Parsons swam the second and third legs, respectively, in the 200.
Albion will turn its attention to its first dual meet of the season. The Britons will host Calvin College Oct. 26 inside the Dean Aquatic Center. The first event is set to begin at 11 a.m.
