ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College women's soccer program designated Wednesday as the day to pause to recognize the contributions of seniors Anne Marie Galus, Lindsay Lubanski and Sabelle Nielson.

First-year players did the work on the only goal, however, as Albion won its first match over a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival since 2010 as the Britons eked out a 1-0 victory over Trine University. Kayla Paquette delivered her first collegiate goal with 9 ½ minutes to play after getting the ball from Morgan Button.

"It is always nice to send the seniors off with a win on their field," Albion Coach Eric Scott said after his team picked up its third win of the season. "The three seniors played their best game of the year. The seniors have provided great motivation. They have the passion to do well.

"We talked about finishing the season," Scott added. "It's a life skill to continue what you are doing at a high level."

It looked as if luck was work against the Britons for much of the second half as shots by Taylor Shrader and Lubanski clanked off the crossbar. In fact, Paqueete scored on Albion's eighth shot on goal in the contest.

"Kayla has been our most consistent player in training and games," Scott said.

Albion finished with a 19-9 edge in shots. Shrader was active, placing two of her five shots on goal. Amanda Allen and Domenique Sarnecky produced two shots apiece.

Mackenzie Hurlburt, Albion's goalkeeper, stopped four shots to gain Albion's second shutout of the season.
